Appeals Process



Step 1: Informal Appeal with the Assessor

Contact the Greene County Assessor’s Office as soon as you receive notice of your assessment. You may call the Greene County Assessor’s Office at 417-868-4101 to speak with an appraiser about your property. You may also email the Assessor’s office with your questions or concerns at [email protected]

During an informal meeting with the Assessor or a member of the Assessor’s staff, you may:

Many concerns are resolved at this level without the need for a formal appeal. However, an informal appeal with the Assessor’s office is not required before filing a formal appeal with the Board of Equalization.



Step 2: Appeal to the Board of Equalization

If you are not satisfied after an informal appeal, you may file a formal appeal with the Greene County Board of Equalization.

You must complete the appropriate appeal form:

Appeal forms must be received by the Greene County Clerk on or before the second Monday in July (July 13th, 2026), in accordance with Missouri law (RSMo 137.275 and 137.385 ). Once filed, the Board of Equalization will schedule a hearing. At the hearing:

Before appearing, please carefully review the Board’s Rules and Procedures to ensure you are prepared for the hearing.



Step 3: Appeal to the Missouri State Tax Commission

If you disagree with the decision of the Board of Equalization, you have the right to appeal to the Missouri State Tax Commission. For more information, please visit the Missouri State Tax Commission.

Your appeal must be filed by September 30 of the year of assessment or within 30 days after the final action of the Board of Equalization — whichever is later.
